My heart is heavy after seeing the photos and videos of the destruction from hurricane Helene.
Unprecedented storm surge, flooding in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, & Tennessee, and thousands who lost their homes. My prayers go out to all who are impacted.
This storm stands out to me for multiple reasons. One being that I am older and simply paid more attention to the news regarding this storm. I am now a homeowner, so I have different feelings when it comes to damage to the homes. The last being able to see/hear so many real time stories on tik-tok and other social media platforms.
In moments like these I struggle to understand why God would let something like this happen.
I'm also reminded of how precious life is and how we are not promised a life of comfort. God is with us and for us. I believe he has plans for our future and for our good. The "things" that we so often place above following Christ are not what we should be striving for. (Of course, losing everything is devastating and I know I would be struggling in that position).
This is something God is teaching me. To not put anything above him. Even in situations where I crave control or comfort I know I need to surrender that and let God lead. His plans are always better than mine even when I don't understand the why. That's a big take away from this hurricane that I want to stay with me in my everyday life.
As we continue to see the disruption from Helene, I pray that the first responders are able to help those in need and to get them to safety. Praying for the restoration of the cities that have lost so much. Let's be neighborly to one another and help those who are hurting.
